Great goal, and very manageable. I haven't kept soda in my house for a long time, but it was more a weight loss decision that stuck.

I've been making my own ginger beer for about a year now. I use less sugar than most as I don't have a sweet tooth.

I'll be blogging about it soon as I've come up with a great method using fresh ginger and yeast that I can make up in about an hour and is ready to drink only a day or 2 later.

I've tried making a bug and relying on natural yeasts but it didn't work - I guess Wellington's wind blows all those natural yeasts away.

I tried the soft drinks my Folks' had over Xmas (L&P and Lemonade), and shuddered at the super sweet taste!!!

Yes, like Gooseberry Jam, we are a Soda Stream household. It totally rocks! You take the gas cylinders back to the shop to be refilled, so no waste there. We also make our own cordials (right now we have homemade cola and a ginger lemonade) so I just have that with soda and I'm happy : )

I bought a soda steam for xmas last year and we use it to make all our own fizzy drinks. It's made with plain tap/tank water. You need to replace the gas cartridge occasionally but the drinks themselves are made in reusable 1 litre bottles. At the touch of a button you can have fresh soda water and it can be easily flavored with juice rather than the sweet flavoured syrups they make for them. A good substitute from buying soft drinks! :)

Yeah, I love Hell's Pizza. Michael and I treat ourselves once a month - it's our junk food binge for the month, to keep us sane.

We used to have it without the kids, but recently our son has taken a liking to pizza, and been quite sneaky about making sure he "can't sleep" on the last Friday of the month when I go out for pizza ;-)

Don't you just love kids who can read and watch the calendar!

Hi Patricia - Yeah, if soft drinks aren't a problem for you, it does make sense to choose something else e.g. caffeine.

Oddly, I never used to drink soft drinks until last year. Some personal issues came up, and I had a tough year, and found msyelf drink coke to cope.

Better that than alcohol, I reckon, but now I need to get back to my previously healthy diet. And get these plastic bottles out of our lives!

Good for you ! It wouldn't be a resolution for me as we never have soft drinks in the house anyway. I have been caffeine free for 2 weeks now. It wasn't a conscious decission to cut back on coffee, it just happened. I drink tap water mostly anyway.
